A Bright Idea
On 21st October 2008, the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) appointed the Electrical Contractors Safety & Standards Association (Ireland) Ltd (ECSSAI) and the Register of Electrical Contractors of Ireland Ltd (RECI) as the new electrical safety supervisory bodies (SSBs). These SSBs are now responsible for regulating the activities of Registered Electrical Contractors (RECs).Switched On to Standards
It is the role of the SSBs to ensure that all registered electrical contractors are operating to the relevant national standard and technical rules. This includes inspecting their work on an ongoing basis and carrying out disciplinary actions where necessary. The SSBs will also hold a register of all registered contractors, covering electricians and some electrical engineers.Switched On to Safety
The Electrical Regulatory Safety Scheme ensures that all electrical installations are carried out by competent electrical contractors. That’s why you should only use a Registered Electrical Contractor and always get a Completion Certificate.
